Friends of the Adobes, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in 1968 for the purpose of bringing together persons interested in history, especially the history of northern San Luis Obispo County and southern Monterey County and to promote the restoration and maintenance of adobes. 

In partnership and cooperation with San Luis Obispo County Parks and the National Parks Service, the organization’s major function is to protect, maintain, preserve, and present early California history of the area in a way that engages, informs, educates, and inspires visitors.

For over 80 years, Friends of the Adobes have been working diligently to preserve the Historic Rios-Caledonia Adobe. Ongoing work in the research library and the museum's informative history displays is a vital part of our volunteer efforts. Our volunteers come from various backgrounds and interests - but we all share a common goal of ensuring that our Historic Rios-Caledonia and its displays are open to the public so we can share its unique history. Our volunteers help as docents, perform minor repairs assist in the library and gift shop, and sometimes choose to serve as a member of our Board of Directors.

If you have any free time and would like to give back to the community, we are always excited to have new volunteers to assist in our efforts. We are always in need of additional docents, members for the Board of Directors, and anyone interested in helping out with special projects or events.
